The new CD by Nobresil is called "Original". In content, it lives up to, and capably represents its title. The ten tracks musical package is a smorgasbord of percussion rhythm and tempo; admirably embellished with outstanding musicianship. The opening track entitled "Thank You", is a lively piece, with sparkling brass orchestration, bright rhythm guitar artistry, captivating drumming, all neatly supported by a soca tinged bassline presence. "Linda", the next track, while maintaining the ebullient spirit of this CD, introduces the clear and enchanting voice of Mari Nobre. The song "Fascinating Rhythm" is outstanding; the talents of the ensemble is challenged. The performing artists rise to the occasion, and deliver a stellar example of improvisational, fluid, tight, and enjoyable musicianship. The collection is so interesting and varied, that it may be difficult to select only one favorite piece. "One More Song to Dance" makes an admirable contribution to art and thrill of dance; without excluding those who prefer to admire the skill and athleticism of, for example, ballroom dancers. Still, this fan had to park the car to enjoy "Gosto de Voce" for a 'one more time' moment. The song "Up Where We Belong" gets a very nice moderate tempo treatment by Nobresil. It is sure to garner more than a few spins by music fans who may have enjoyed another version in the past. The collection concludes with "Obrigada"; a Portugese reprise of track one. Music fans will also find delight in noting the presence and substantive contribution of the always appreciated work effort of Hubert Laws.
